🎧The basics
Hear a clip, name it
Every round plays 30-second previews. You're asked either Name the track or Who's the artist? — tap one of four answers before the ring runs out. Previews are free; you don't need a music subscription to play.
Scoring
100 points for a right answer plus a speed bonus of up to 100 — the faster you tap, the more you get. Three in a row makes every answer worth ×1.5; five in a row ×2. A wrong answer resets the streak.
Daily Challenge
10 tracks, the same for everyone, one go a day. It counts as soon as the first track plays — if you quit, your score so far is today's score and you can't replay it until the next Daily drops. It rolls over at 23:00 UTC. Play every day to build a streak and climb the daily board. One go a day is in the latest Android app now; coming soon to iPhone.
Streak freeze
Miss one Daily in a week and your streak survives — the freeze kicks in by itself. Miss two and it resets. Stats shows whether this week's freeze is ready or used.
Crate of the week
One crate gets the spotlight each week (Monday to Sunday), the same on every phone. Its card sits under the Daily on Home — climb its weekly board; a Top 10 earns a badge.
Crates
A crate is a genre or an era — Soul, R&B, UK Garage, 80s and so on. Some are limited-time: look for the LIMITED badge and the "ends in" timer. New crates are announced on Home.
Replay clip
Missed the start? Replay clip starts the preview again. The timer keeps running, so it costs you speed bonus, not points.
🎮Music Quiz
The Quiz tab. Pick a mode, tap a crate, play.
Classic
10 tracks, 15 seconds each. The standard round, and the one the crate leaderboards use.
Quick Fire
5 tracks, 8 seconds each. Short and sharp — fewer points on offer, but a quick way to warm up.
Sudden Death
12 seconds a track and one miss ends the round. Watch a short ad for a second life. Not available in battles.
Pick your crate
Choose a mode, then tap a crate to start. Each tile shows your best score for that crate in that mode.
Results
Double your score by watching a short ad (solo rounds only), share a Scorecard image, save the tracks as a playlist, or open the Leaderboard. Play again re-runs the same crate and mode with fresh tracks.
✈️Challenge a friend
Not live — send your round and they play it whenever.
Challenge a friend
Tap Challenge a friend, pick a mode and crate and play the round. When you finish, the share sheet opens with your code and link — send it. Your friend plays exactly the same tracks and tries to beat your score, on iPhone or Android.
Got a challenge code?
Paste a code or a link a friend sent you. You play their tracks; the results screen tells you whether you beat them. Beating a friend earns the Rematch Royalty badge.
Links look like inyourstreams.com/c?d=CODE. Opening one on a phone with the app installed jumps straight in.
⚔️Live Battle
Head to head in real time — same tracks, same clock, iPhone vs Android welcome.
Battle a friend
You get a 6-letter room code. Send the invite; they join from Live Battle and the 3-2-1 countdown starts the moment they're in. Both phones hear the same tracks with the same timer.
Join with a code
Paste a friend's code or link. Spaces and dashes don't matter. Opening a battle link from Messages lands you straight in the room.
Open battle
Pairs you with whoever's waiting right now. Nobody there? You become the one waiting, and the next player who taps it lands on you.
Stay open for battles
Keeps a room waiting while you use the rest of the app. Close the battle screen, play solo, check your stats — the moment someone joins we bring you straight into the countdown. The You're open — waiting for a challenger bar at the top of Home and Music Quiz shows you're open — tap it to jump back in; flip the switch off to stop. A solo round pauses your room and reopens it when you're done.
Battle alerts
Want to know when someone's up for a battle? On the Live Battle screen, switch on Battle alerts (under Stay open for battles — it's off to start with). When another player opens up, you'll get a "Battle time 🎧" notification; tap it to jump to Live Battle and take them on. Alerts come at most once every 30 minutes, never while you're using the app (watch for the "… is up for a battle" banner on Home instead), and your own open room never alerts you. Make sure notifications are allowed for In Your Streams — on iPhone, Settings → In Your Streams → Notifications; on Android, Settings → Apps → In Your Streams → Notifications. In the latest Android app now; coming soon to iPhone.
Battle the AI
Three house DJs — DJ Rookie, DJ Selecta and DJ Headliner — from relaxed to fast and frighteningly accurate. Works offline and counts as a normal round for your stats and the leaderboard.
During a battle
Your opponent's live score sits above the question. Answers move on by themselves after a couple of seconds — there's no Next button. Battles are Classic or Quick Fire only: no second lives, no double-score.
Leaving
Back out while waiting and the room closes; your friend sees that you left. Leave mid-round and they keep their score and see the results. Win a battle and you earn the Rematch Royalty badge.
Battle links look like inyourstreams.com/b?d=CODE. Rooms left waiting for 10 minutes close by themselves.
✨Mix Builder & Playlists
Mix Builder
Pick a vibe, a genre and an era, add a hint if you like ("Sade, rainy day, Defected"), choose a length, and we pull tracks from the best playlists into one mix.
Save it
Save a mix — or the tracks from a quiz you just played — to your music library. On iPhone this needs an active Apple Music subscription with Sync Library on; the quiz itself doesn't.
Playlists tab
Every mix and saved round lives here. Open one to see the tracks, tweak it and save it.
📊Stats, boards & badges
Your DJ name
Set it at the top of Stats — it's what friends, battle opponents and the shared leaderboard see. Up to 20 characters.
Stats
Games played, accuracy, best streak, total points, daily streak and best daily, plus your personal best per crate in every mode. Reset everything from the bottom of the Stats tab.
Leaderboards
Daily Challenge, Total Points, Quick Fire, Sudden Death and every crate's Classic board — iPhone and Android players ranked together, all time or this week. Each board shows your rank, your score, how many are playing and everyone's DJ level. On iPhone, Apple's Game Center boards are still there too.
DJ levels
Every point you score counts towards your DJ level: Bedroom DJ, Warm-up DJ (5,000), Resident (25,000), Headliner (75,000), Legend (200,000) and Hall of Fame (500,000). Your level shows on Stats, on the shared board and on the battle countdown.
Badges
21 to earn — streaks, rounds played, every crate, Crate Master, limited-time crates, battle wins, beating DJ Headliner, challenges sent, Daily streaks and a weekly Top 10. Locked badges show how close you are, and the results screen tells you when one's almost yours.
Notifications
After your first finished round the app asks once whether it can notify you about new crates and limited-time drops. Change your mind any time in your phone's Settings.
❓FAQ
Quick answers, all taken from the guide above.
What is In Your Streams?
In Your Streams is a music quiz app for iPhone and Android. Every round plays 30-second previews and asks you either Name the track or Who's the artist? — tap one of four answers before the ring runs out. There are 20+ crates (genres and eras such as Soul, UK Garage, Soulful House, R&B, Reggae, Hip-Hop, Jungle, the 80s and 90s), three modes (Classic, Quick Fire and Sudden Death), a Daily Challenge, Live Battle and a Mix Builder. iPhone and Android players compete together.
Is In Your Streams free to play?
Yes. It's free to play and shows ads: in solo rounds you can watch a short ad to double your score, or for a second life in Sudden Death. The 30-second previews are free, so you don't need a music subscription to play. The one thing that needs a subscription is saving a mix to your library on iPhone, which needs active Apple Music with Sync Library on.
How do I add or change my DJ name (player name)?
Open the Stats tab — your DJ name is set at the top of it. It can be up to 20 characters and is what friends, battle opponents and the shared leaderboard see. It's optional: until you set one you show up as "Anonymous DJ".
How does scoring work?
100 points for a right answer plus a speed bonus of up to 100 — the faster you tap, the more you get. Three right in a row makes every answer worth ×1.5, five in a row ×2, and a wrong answer resets the streak. Replay clip keeps the timer running, so it costs you speed bonus, not points.
What is the Daily Challenge?
10 tracks, the same for everyone, one go a day. It counts as soon as the first track plays — if you quit, your score so far is today's score. It rolls over at 23:00 UTC. Play every day to build a streak and climb the daily board; a streak freeze covers one missed Daily a week (miss two and the streak resets).
How do I challenge a friend with a code?
Tap Challenge a friend, pick a mode and crate and play the round. When you finish, the share sheet opens with your code and link — send it. Your friend plays exactly the same tracks and tries to beat your score, on iPhone or Android. Got a code? Paste the code or link into the app — links look like inyourstreams.com/c?d=CODE. Beating a friend earns the Rematch Royalty badge.
How does Live Battle work?
Live Battle is head to head in real time — same tracks, same clock, iPhone vs Android welcome. Battle a friend gives you a 6-letter room code to send; they join from Live Battle and the 3-2-1 countdown starts the moment they're in. Open battle pairs you with whoever's waiting right now, and Stay open for battles keeps a room waiting while you use the rest of the app. Battles are Classic or Quick Fire only, with no second lives or double-score. Battle links look like inyourstreams.com/b?d=CODE, and rooms left waiting for 10 minutes close by themselves.
Can I play against the AI, or offline?
Yes — Battle the AI. Three house DJs, DJ Rookie, DJ Selecta and DJ Headliner, from relaxed to fast and frighteningly accurate. It works offline and counts as a normal round for your stats and the leaderboard.
What is the Mix Builder?
Pick a vibe, a genre and an era, add a hint if you like ("Sade, rainy day, Defected"), choose a length, and the app pulls tracks from the best playlists into one mix. You can save a mix — or the tracks from a quiz you just played — to your music library: Apple Music on iPhone (needs an active subscription with Sync Library on) or Spotify on Android. Every mix and saved round lives in the Playlists tab.
How do leaderboards, badges and DJ levels work?
Leaderboards cover Daily Challenge, Total Points, Quick Fire, Sudden Death and every crate's Classic board, with iPhone and Android players ranked together, all time or this week. There are 21 badges to earn, and every point you score counts towards your DJ level: Bedroom DJ, Warm-up DJ (5,000), Resident (25,000), Headliner (75,000), Legend (200,000) and Hall of Fame (500,000). A Top 10 on the Crate of the week board earns a badge.
